W.T. Cooke Elementary School
Parental Involvement Policy

W. T. Cooke Elementary School welcomes the participation of parents and recognizes that parental involvement is the key to academic achievement and success.  We believe that parents provide the primary educational environment for children and therefore, it is essential for Cooke Elementary to partner with families to foster academic success.

In order to promote a strong partnership between home and school, we will provide the following:

W.T. Cooke Elementary school shall require every student to complete and sign a parent, teacher, student compact which will be on file in each homeroom teacher’s classroom.

W.T. Cooke Elementary school will conduct an Open House as well as provide parent teacher conferences throughout the school year.  Teachers are also available to discuss student progress throughout the school year via phone calls, notes, e-mails and teacher Web pages.

W.T. Cooke Elementary school will provide parents with 2 to 4 progress reports and 4 report cards as well as an annual school report card each school year.

W.T. Cooke Elementary school will send home a weekly folder every Thursday that will contain information about what is happening at school.

W.T. Cooke Elementary school wants parents to be a part of their child’s school.  We provide opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s class and in other locations in the building to improve student achievement.  Parents are encouraged to participate in school events throughout the school year.

W.T. Cooke Elementary school encourages participation in the PTA (Parent Teacher Association).  The PTA is active in providing the children with many activities such as a carnival, movie nights and fundraising where the money raised goes directly back to the children through various yearly activities.

W.T. Cooke Elementary school will solicit parental input on policies and procedures in place at school through the school planning council, questionnaires and surveys.

W.T. Cooke Elementary school will invite parents to participate in programs that would help them better help their child in school.  (Everyday Math, Interactive NoteTaking, thinking strategies).

W.T. Cooke Elementary school administrators will regularly contact parents when students are referred for disciplinary reasons.

W.T. Cooke Elementary school offers all parents the opportunity to sign up for MySchool Mail which will send out reminders, information and emergency information on an as needed basis.

Here are some suggestions on how you can get involved here at school:

Volunteer

Volunteers can become involved with tutoring, helping in the classrooms, helping in the computer lab or library media center, the production room, the main office and various other activities

Room Parents:

Room parents help coordinate parties and assist the teacher in recruiting volunteers for various events throughout the year.

School Planning Council:

This committee establishes school wide improvement goals.  Parents are needed to work with the faculty and staff to identify needs and develop strategies for continuous improvement.  A letter comes out each April inviting parents to join.

Field Trips:

Parents will be asked to act as chaperones on field trips that the students take throughout the year.  Unfortunately, younger siblings may not accompany parents on the school bus or on the field trips.
